With the weather becoming more ideal each day for boating on the Emerald Coast and gas prices down, its a great reason to get a boat! The Emerald Coast offers a lot of activities such as, fishing, camping, water skiing, sightseeing and partying! Breeze Bar and Grill will open in May! What was once Cava Blue and The Royal B will now be a new restaurant with a Calypso island look. Breeze Bar and Grill will offer a family-friendly vibe during the day. Lunch prices will range from $12 to $15. After 10 p.m., the bar will turn into a nightclub that will target the 30-somethings. There will be dance music, music videos on the televisions and a full-service bar! 30-A is now on the iPhone! iPhone users will now have 30-A in the palm of their hands due to an iPhone application that is free. The 23rd Annual Sandestin Wine Festival this month! The Sandestin Wine Festival is one of the many popular events here on the Emerald Coast. The festival takes place April 23-26 at the Sandestin Resort in Baytowne. More than 600 domestic and international wines from 100 different wineries will be there. The festival has a great turnout due to is popularity locally. Developers of Grand Boulevard are facing a lawsuit. The Howard Group is facing a lawsuit due to the hotel being developed in the Grand Boulevard is too tall according to The Presidents Council. The hotel was going to be 14 stories, but was downsized to 11 stories. The Howard Group is being sued because the building violates the county's 50-foot, four-story height restriction, didn't undergo the hearings required of a major development and violates Walton County's growth management plan. Panama City Beaches will be helping sea turtles! Businesses on the beaches of Panama City have till May1, 2010 to have floodlights replaced with Turtle friendly lights. All other lighting along beach front property would have to do the same by May 1, 2013. Bright lights on the beaches at night affect baby sea turtles and their journey to the Gulf of Mexico. The lights can disorientate baby turtles and lead them away from the water where they will not survive. Some species of sea turtles are endangered. After a storm and windy conditions, power went out along Old Hwy 98. When the power came back on, a surge caused a spark that caught napkins on fire. The structure did have some bad damage from the fire. The upstairs will take some time to rebuild, but the downstairs beach bar could be open soon! The Shrimp Shack in Seaside is open! The Shrimp Shack is gaining it's popularity pretty quick! The restaurant took over the location of the Roly Poly sandwich shop in February. The great seafood is also accompanied with a relaxed environment. Beachgoers can walk up and get some great seafood during the day, or grab dinner in the evening. The Shrimp Shack is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. till 9 p.m. Nightown is closed! Nightown originally opened in 1979. The night club has been a local hot spot for offering night life! Owner Bob Bonezzi is not sure if he will remain the owner or give the club a new owner. New ideas and plans are being discussed currently. Bonezzi also owns The Swamp and Howl at the Moon on Okaloosa Island. Gulf Coast's Annual Seabreeze Jazz Festival has a new home! The Seabreeze Jazz Festival will now take place in Pier Park on Panama City Beach. The new location offers more space for the festival that has been growing fast in popularity! Pier Park offers many restaurants, a close location to the beach and a clean environment for a large audience. The festival takes place April 16th-19th. Festival information and details can be found at www.seabreezejazzfestival.com. The Destin Harbor is being dredged now! The harbor was getting extremely shallow from the build up of sand. Boats were hitting bottom as they entered and exited the harbor. The shallow was a major threat to boat captains because commerce could have came to a stop! Currently, the harbor is being dredged and 6,000 to 7,000 cubic feet of sand will be put on Norriego Point. Boaters are urged to cruise slowly and avoid making any wake that may disturb the operation. The toll to Pensacola Beach almost went up! The toll that remains $1 almost doubled to $2! Pensacola Beach has been very crowded during the weekends. Parking at the public beach access has been almost impossible. The owner of Innerlight Surf Shop, Yancy Spencer, gives a surf and beach report daily that is very helpful to beachgoers on Pensacola Beach.
